Training to be a Specialist Physician  in Learning Disability

Courses:

The "Voortgezette academische opleiding - Gehandicaptenzorg" is a specialised training program designed for physicians who are working in the field of care for disabled people. It is a two-year inter-university program, co-ordinated alternately by four Flemish universities (KUL, RUG, UIA and VUB). The program focuses on all medical aspects of care for disabled people (prevention, causes and treatment) as well as on other aspects such as behavioural sciences and legal questions.

The first of the two year course mainly treats the general aspects of
1) organization and legal aspects of health care
2) behavioural sciences and developmental psychology
3) paramedic planning and approach
4) medical/biological sciences.

During the second year a more in-depth approach is taken to certain subjects discussed in the first year.
